GREEN BAY, Wis. — TrilliumHD announced it is building the area's first public compressed natural gas (CNG) fueling station. The fueling station, which will open in March 2012, will be located at the De Pere Superstore at 1501 West Main Avenue in De Pere, just off of Highway 41.

TrilliumHD will build, operate and maintain the CNG fueling station. Public access to the fuel will be available to anyone with a CNG vehicle. The station's primary customers, however, will be heavy-duty (HD) trucking and transportation fleets. Special fueling programs will be available to fleets wanting to take advantage of the economic and environmental benefits of CNG. Paper Transport, Inc., is the first fleet to contract with TrilliumHD.

TrilliumHD is a joint venture between Integrys Transportation Fuels, LLC, operating as Trillium CNG, with offices in Green Bay and Chicago, and Paper Transport, Inc., based in Green Bay. The Trillium name is well-known in the fueling industry for CNG facility design, construction, maintenance and operation in areas such as California, New York, Washington, D.C., and Texas. That same equipment quality and service excellence will be available through TrilliumHD. Paper Transport uses CNG as a fuel for its own fleet of natural gas trucks and will lend that experience to developing a fleet-focused experience.

Construction of the CNG station at the De Pere Superstore began in November 2011. The next step will be the delivery and installation of major equipment, including two 250 HP compressors, gas driers and a twin-hose CNG dispenser. The station will provide fast fills, with a flow rate of 10 diesel gallon equivalents per minute. Shortly after the major equipment arrives on site, the Trillium team will complete installation, commissioning and training.

TrilliumHD plans to open additional stations in the area in 2012.

"Natural gas makes good economic sense as a transportation fuel for our country," said Charles Koontz, managing director of strategic business development for Integrys Transportation Fuels. "With an abundant supply of domestic natural gas, forecasts show low and stable long-term prices for CNG. It isn't affected by the global issues that make gasoline and diesel prices so volatile. Through TrilliumHD, we want to build a network of over-the-road CNG fueling stations to ensure CNG is a convenient, readily accessible fuel for drivers."

Matt Olson, owner of the De Pere Superstore, believes bringing CNG fueling to the area is important for several reasons. "We're excited to be part of the first CNG project in northeast Wisconsin. CNG is an up and coming transportation fuel. With Paper Transport taking the lead in this area by fueling with natural gas, we believe the trend will steamroll into other businesses."

As part of the CNG project, Olson has expanded the De Pere Superstore's facilities for heavy-duty trucking, with 40 additional parking stalls, a CAT scale, overnight parking and room for CNG equipment.

"Really, we're making this a one-stop location for the trucking industry," said Olson. "We hope to attract fleets from other areas or states, and we anticipate other local businesses converting to natural gas vehicles."

CNG is growing as a transportation fuel. The International Association of Natural Gas Vehicles (www.iangv.org) estimates that within the next 10 years, about 9 percent of the world's transportation fleets will be natural gas vehicles.

The innovative minds at one of America’s top research institutions, MIT, have concluded their report on the natural gas market. It looks as though “natural gas is finding its place at the heart of the energy discussion.” The key factor in their analysis revolves around the abundant supply of natural gas and societal desires to cut greenhouse gases and transition away from dirtier fossil fuels.

“Gas is, globally speaking, a very young industry with a very bright future ahead of it,” said Anthony Meggs, the study’s co-chair and visiting engineer at the MIT Energy Initiative. The report concluded that natural gas can play a major role in reducing greenhouse gases. Our domestic resource is far more abundant than previously thought and can have significant impact at little cost.

It used to be common to see transit buses spewing black smoke as they traveled noisily through the city—well that sight is becoming a thing of the past. Purchases of alternative-fueled vehicles (AFVs), primarily buses, are increasing rapidly. By 2015, the Cleantech Market Intelligence firm forecasts that AFVs will represent more than 50% of the 64,000 transit buses that will be delivered worldwide that year. In 2010, AFVs made up 28% of total bus deliveries.

The AFV market has exciting potential; specifically, compressed natural gas (CNG) powered buses. Over the last five years, approximately 20% of all bus purchases have been CNG. Similarly, CNG fuel consumption increased 42% from 2003 to 2008, as reported by the American Public Transportation Association.

Public transit agencies are starting to follow in the footsteps of Los Angeles Metro, who retired their last diesel-powered bus in January, and WMATA, which fuels 460 CNG buses each night. With advances in technology and people who promote clean transportation, AFVs will continue to overpower and outperform traditional diesel-powered buses.

If the new Natural Gas Act of 2011 passes, the Alternative Fuel Tax Credit will be extended to December 31, 2016—that give us five more years of low cost compressed natural gas (CNG). President Obama urged Congress this week to pass the act as part of his new federal energy blueprint. According to the President, “Last year, more than 150 Members of Congress from both sides of the aisle proposed legislation providing incentives to use clean-burning natural gas in our vehicles instead of oil. So I ask them to keep at it.” The President’s statement increased stock trust in many public CNG companies around the nation.

If everything goes according to plan, the Natural Gas Act could be presented to the President as early as May. Some of the key elements of the bill include:

• Extension of the Alternative Fuel Tax Credit to December 31, 2016.
• Extension of the Alternative Fuel Motor Vehicle Tax Credit to December 31,2016.
• Makes all new dedicated natural gas vehicles and certain bi-fuel and dual fuel alternative natural gas vehicles eligible for a credit equal to 80% of the incremental cost up to a credit cap
• Tax credit max value would be capped and would range from $7,500 to $64,000 depending on the weight of the vehicle.
• Natural Gas Vehicle Production Incentives.
• Extension and increase of the Alternative Fuel Vehicle Refueling Property Credit to December 31, 2011.
• Grants for research, development, and demonstration.

Salt Lake City, UT - January 3, 2011 - Trillium has been awarded a contract by Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) to provide operations and maintenance services at their Bladensburg and Four Mile Run Bus divisions. Together, these facilities fuel more than 460 CNG buses each night. Under this contract, WMATA also has the option to replace their existing compressors with new ones.
Trillium will supply locally based service technicians for each facility and support WMATA's operations with 24/7 remote monitoring and service. Trillium took over operations of the fueling facilities on January 1, 2011.

Trillium specializes in optimizing CNG station performance. The company can improve CNG station performance and reliability, while allowing normal use of the fueling station during the upgrade period.

"Trillium is pleased to be the successful bidder on the WMATA CNG service contract.
